Invoice Insurance App
Bad debt protection insurance.
01
The product
Protecting businesses when invoices go unpaid
The platform brought trade credit insurance into the day-to-day flow of invoice finance.
It was designed to help businesses protect individual invoices against non-payment while working alongside invoice discounting and factoring facilities. Accounting data, credit-risk signals and policy activity had to stay connected so customers could make decisions without leaving the product.
02
The challenge
Move beyond the limits of the MVP
The existing product had reached the point where defects, architectural constraints and growing operational needs were slowing it down.
OpenGeeksLab joined the product team to stabilize the application, understand the existing system, add customer-facing capabilities and create a foundation that could support more integrations and higher transaction volume.
03
The solution
Reconnect the product, its data and its partners
The work combined a microservices architecture, product customization and third-party integrations. It also had to respect the relationships between the insurer, its customers, accounting platforms and external risk systems.
Restarting development
A deliberate path from fragile MVP to working product
The team worked iteratively: diagnose the system, rebuild the necessary foundations, validate each change and coordinate closely with the external insurance platform specialists.
- 01
Assess
Analyze the inherited product, identify failure points and map the integrations that could not be interrupted.
- 02
Rebuild
Rewrite key architectural elements and document how the system should behave as it evolved.
- 03
Integrate
Keep accounting data synchronized so invoices, credit signals and policy states stayed aligned.
- 04
Calculate
Use counterparty risk indicators to support credit scoring and insurance-price calculations.
- 05
Track
Follow invoices after cover was purchased and update policy status when an invoice was paid.

Modern platform strategy
How we would approach a similar product today
The business problem still comes first: reliable financial data, explainable risk workflows and an operational model the team can control.
For a comparable platform now, we would add modern observability, automated security and quality checks, incremental modernization, and carefully evaluated document or risk-assistance workflows only where they deliver measurable value.
